Smart Rescheduling in ActiveCollab
Smart Rescheduling is a powerful feature in ActiveCollab that helps you automatically shift dependent tasks when you reschedule a parent task. This ensures that your entire project timeline stays aligned, without having to manually adjust each task.
What Is Smart Rescheduling?
When you move a task that has dependencies, Smart Rescheduling automatically updates the start and due dates of any tasks that depend on it. This keeps your project workflow consistent and saves you time.
When rescheduling tasks, ActiveCollab automatically takes weekends and designated non-working days into account.
Non-working days can include company-wide time off, such as:
- National holidays
- Company events or retreats
- Any other scheduled days off
ActiveCollab uses this information to intelligently adjust task timelines, ensuring that work is planned realistically and aligned with your team’s availability.
Workdays are set to Monday - Friday by default, but you can change and personalize them in your System settings/Workdays settings.
How can I use Smart Rescheduling in ActiveCollab?
You can automatically reschedule Dependent Tasks in two ways:
In the Task Modal:
- Step 1: Go to your project in ActiveCollab.
- Step 2: Open the task you want to move (Parent task).
- Step 3: Change the Start and Due date of the task.
- Step 4: A pop-up modal will appear, displaying how the change will impact related tasks by adjusting their start and due dates accordingly.
- Step 5: Save the changes.
- Step 6: Any dependent tasks will shift automatically to maintain their relative order and spacing.
In the Timeline view:
- Step 1: Go to your project in ActiveCollab.
- Step 2: Switch to the Timeline view.
- Step 3: Locate the task you want to move (Parent task).
- Step 4: Click and drag the task bar to a new start or due date.
- Step 5: Any dependent tasks will shift automatically to maintain their relative order and spacing.
Tip: Parent tasks should be completed before the current task. You will see a warning sign when Due dates overlap.
