What is a Scrum Meeting?
A daily Scrum, also known as a stand-up, is a short time-boxed meeting in Agile and Scrum projects. Its purpose is to align the team, share progress and quickly address obstacles without getting into long discussions. These meetings are usually 15 minutes or less and everyone stands up which helps to focus and be efficient.
During a daily Scrum each team member answers three questions: What did I do yesterday? What will I do today? And are there any blockers or challenges that will stop me from making progress? By keeping the format simple and consistent everyone knows what’s happening in the project, where the risks are and how to collaborate to resolve them.
The Scrum Master facilitates the meeting but it’s not about reporting to a manager. It’s about creating transparency and accountability within the team. Issues that need deeper discussion are noted but handled outside the meeting to keep the stand-up short and productive.
Daily Scrum’s promote better communication, collaboration and teams stay in sync in fast moving projects. When done consistently they reduce misunderstandings, uncover problems early and keep the whole team focused on delivering value.
