Project Baseline

What is Project Baseline?

Project Baseline is a fixed reference point established during the planning phase of a project to track its progress against the original scope, schedule, and budget. Serving as a benchmark, it allows project managers to identify deviations, adapt plans, allocate resources, and ensure deliverables remain on track.

Project baselines also help manage client and stakeholder expectations, encourage accountability within the team, and provide a clear measure of performance throughout the implementation phase. Unlike a project plan, which outlines how the project will be executed, the baseline is used to monitor and compare actual results to the original plan.
